With little over a month to go until our #TeamCartrefi runners take on the Cardiff Half Marathon, throughout September we will be highlighting some of their stories and why they have chosen to run for Cartrefi.
Kicking us off is Meurig, who not only has already raised an incredible £645, but also has a deeply personal and inspirational reason for running:
“Those who know me will know how important my dad’s work was to me. He ran a charity supporting people with learning disabilities to reach their full potential.
"As an undergraduate, I spent my summers working as a Support Worker for another brilliant charity, Cartrefi Cymru, where I met some incredible people doing excellent work.
"I first signed up for the Cardiff Half at the end of 2019, planning to run in 2020. Shortly after, Covid hit, and then we lost Dad too.
"The run didn’t go ahead, and although running helped me through that very difficult time, I never managed to take part in the race. Now, in 2025, I’m looking forward to finally getting over the finish line and raising money for a great cause while doing it.”
Thank you Meurig for your amazing fundraising efforts and for sharing your inspirational story with us.
By running for Cartrefi, Meurig and his fellow runners will be supporting people with learning disabilities and autism across Wales live more fulfilled, independent lives within their communities.
Our work provides person centred support, promoting independence, choice, and equality so that people can live the lives they want. All the money raised from the Cardiff half will go directly to our communities across Wales, supporting vital Community Hubs and activities.
